Micropoetry Month: Nov 2017: #24

Micropoetry MonthAlright, if you’ve got a minute today…!!

A minute poem has 12 lines of 60 syllables broken into in 3 stanzas, following the 8/4/4/4 syllable pattern and the aabb/ ccdd/ eeff/ rhyme scheme. Write your micropoem and share using comments or Mister Linky!

shut down the weapon factories
find ways for peace
question your gun
question your son

pack up the sprawling tent cities
atrocities
children need homes
our dead need tombs

who are they truly beating for
these drums of war
what are your lies
what is their price

Your Name or Mine

drop a coin in his silver plate
the homeless sky
busking by night
your songs or mine

the one-armed wind picks barbed wire strings
rain taps its feet
on bloodied ground
your side or mine

from the mountain of severed heads
let’s bring new ears
do they still scream
your name or mine

The idea was to write a Minute Poem (12 lines of 60 syllables- in 3 stanzas of 8-4-4-4 syllables each- with aabb/ ccdd/ eeff/ rhyme scheme). The structure worked but it sounded better to me without the forced rhyming, so posting it anyway…

Sleepless Light

In this town, where light fears to sleep,
worn sun beams weep,
outside prism doors,
on mottled floors.

The black night with the sickle eye,
knocks on the sky,
the lone monk whirls
where twilight curls.

Star silhouettes against the white,
blink out of sight,
as cobwebbed dreams,
swallow their screams.

Waiting Game

He wove tanka from peacock wings,
through nimbus rings,
with cherry blooms,
on rainbow looms;

Filled glowing antiseptic walls,
with bird breath scrawls.
with whispered heat,
with braided feet;

Alone was just a waiting game,
always the same,
string beads of pain,
again, again.
