time lifted his shirt
and showed them his purple scars,
it was me, he said,
I wanted to stop
but I couldn’t,
I saw it in her eyes
but I couldn’t,
I tripped and fell
but I couldn’t,
I stayed forever,
still, I couldn’t.
time lifted his shirt
and showed them his purple scars,
it was me, he said,
I wanted to stop
but I couldn’t,
I saw it in her eyes
but I couldn’t,
I tripped and fell
but I couldn’t,
I stayed forever,
still, I couldn’t.
Time, as but a powerless witness. Wonderful.

Interesting viewpoint! Poor Time, constrained by his very nature.

I see the purple as a new scar that has not yet had time to heal.

The first two lines….I was enthralled right there. Time does do a number on us all. No matter who, no matter where. And I love the use of the color purple…..purple rain is what comes to mind. Well done!

When you only have 44 words to work with, it can be dicey to include a repeated refrain, but sometimes it works. Here it definitely does.

I stayed forever,
still, I couldn’t.
