Phantom Rose

press this night
between the pages of your book,
like a phantom rose,
dry moonbeams
tracing brittle contours
of fleeting stars,
light that will crumble at a touch,
the faint suggestion of a lost fragrance,
an epitaph to a love
that blossomed too soon.

Quadrille (44 word poem) for Dverse Poets that includes the prompt word “rose”

      1. Thanks so much. Because of the time difference, the prompt gets published midnight my time, so it’s late by the time I get around to linking my poem. Appreciate your help greatly!

  1. I love the thought of pressing nights between the pages of someone’s book. An epitaph to a love that blossomed too soon – sadness in this and wistfulness yet so very romantic in the thoughts of it.
