an ancient wind
stirs on tired branches
cooling tears in new eyes

Linked to Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, where Basho’s journey to the Deep North (Oku no Hosomichi) continues. Past the Shirakawa Barrier, Basho hunts in vain for Katsumi flowers around Mt. Asaka and near Fukushima finds the old fern stone half buried in the mud.
