filled with beauty

shadows lengthen
will this mountain know me
if I return

Linked to Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, where Basho’s journey to the Deep North (Oku no Hosomichi) continues. Leaving Kurobane, Basho crosses on horseback to see the Killing Stone near a  poisonous hot spring and near Ashino, rests awhile in the shade of a weeping willow.

  2. love the progression from the first to the second haiku.
    yeah, makes me wonder if he had stopped to admire the beauty along the tracks, thus “shadows lengthen” (time had passed quickly) without him knowing it. 🙂

  4. Both are beautiful. I like the thoughts expressed in the second, and as I think metaphorically I wonder about all the ‘mountains’ I have climbed in life…..
