Dreams, I think,
are like their dreamers,
spawned by their moods,
aping their attitudes;
see those garrulous,
backslapping dreams,
getting together at sunset,
at a tea shop on the horizon;
laughing, cursing,
trading secrets,
waiting for sleep
to give them their cue;
mine just looks
for an empty path,
that the stars
have forgotten to light;
slips in alone, late,
clutching the apron strings of the night,
stepping gingerly around the clouds
not splashing through the wind and dew;
see, dreams are so much
like their dreamers;
mine tiptoes down in silence,
sees my crossed fingers
and crosses its own too;
squeezes its eyes shut
and tries to dream
fervently
of a new moon.

I love this piece of whimsy β such a delicious mix of the humorous and the lyrical.

This was an interesting twist on personification – your wordsmithing is exquisite: the poem itself, rendered in lovely, dreamlike notes. Awesome writing!

Oh. I can imagine my dreams would be quite poetic, thoughtful but not too thoughtful. π Interesting poetry, beautiful to read. π

dreams are like the dreamer..interesting concept…dreams come in many forms sometimes they are out of the dreamers control as a higher source comes into place. Dreams can take you anywhere if you are willing to take the ride..but, hold on as some might take turns.

This is so beautifully written. I love the concept – the vision of the dreams backslapping and boasting, while yours “just looks for an empty path, that the stars have forgotten to light; See, dreams are so much like their dreamers.” Beautiful to read and imagine.

Wow. I see you are perfectly right! I love meeting your tiptoeing dreams here, not one of the raucous gang after all. Your poem makes me want to pay more attention to how my sleeping dreams (which I rarely remember) are like me. I think I have to work on memory …

The thought that dreamers are like their dreams is such a cool idea. I like my dreams to be like a mighty ship, but in reality it’s often more a decapitated cart in an overgrown garden filled with muck…

This is one of my favorites of poems that you have shared! I like very much the comparison of the dreamer to his/her dream. I like the idea of dreaming of a new moon…and (smiles) that is one dream that always comes to pass.

Thank you Mary, appreciate your comment greatly. I referenced the new moon as a metaphor for a reticent dream(er) looking to lurk in the shadows rather than in the bright lights…glad you liked it.

Ha. It is a cool thought that dreams take after their dreamers, which I guess makes sense as it would be you that is to achieve the dream or set out for it. I am not sure what I would say my dream is – beyond waking up every day and living life as best I can

Thank you X… your dream is a prototype for everyone to aspire to..what can be better than waking up and trying to be the best we can! Cheers!
