Intruder

It trudged in,
like a kid with a kite.

Sticky fingers
clutching brittle squares,
string trailing in the mud…
squelching through slushy puddles,
shoes soaked, laces undone.

tongue stuck out, concentrating,
calling out a name,
eyes burning with excitement,
a grin on his pudgy face.

It trudged in,
like a kid with a kite.
leaving dirty footprints,
wearing a winning smile.

Restless thought
grabbing a memory,
emotions trailing in the slime.
