How many emotions exist,
did I inherit them all?
how do I know which ones I got,
how do I know if they work or not,
and how do I find the one I missed,
the one I never felt at all?
For now this emptiness
persists;
like a flower that will not
bloom or wilt;
Why did it spring
after love and tears;
how did it come
after lonesome fear?
perhaps in place
of that one I missed,
the one I never got at all.

This is a brilliant description of emptiness:
“like a flower that will not
bloom or wilt”–perhaps one of the best, most creative, and most unique that I have ever read. Excellent!

I do feel the emptiness here. I wonder sometimes what happens to other emotions on the spectrum. I wonder if they were all equally distributed….or not.

Perhaps skewed in their distribution, sadly. Thanks Mary.

Intriguing questions. Indeed, how does one know which one is missing, if one has not felt it? I like the line “for now the emptiness persists.”
